I'm due to check out a 2000 Blast tomorrow for my girlfriend. The bike has under 10k miles and is being sold to me for $1350. The only issue that owner has mentioned so far is that it needs a new head gasket.

Another Blast owner I know was wary that a head gasket would be needed for a bike that barely has 10k. Should I be worried too?

This seems strange? New head gasket on so few miles? Do you know why the previous owner believes it needs a new head gasket? Mike

It's a 2000 model,,,,,and I wouldn't be surprised if the current owner's confusing rocker box with head. If that's the case, and I strongly suspect that it is, the buyer is obligated to use it to his advantage : )

You can do your due diligence with a simple search on Badweb.

What Bigdaddy said. The Blasts before 03 used a paper rocker box gasket, and it will start to leak around 5000 miles. There was a switch made to a metal gasket in 03 which is much more reliable. I've heard they switched to an even better rubber coated metal gasket recently, but I haven't confirmed that.

In any event, your leak is likely the rocker box gasket. If you replace it with the gasket from an 07 Blast, you will be good to go. That will be a few hundred dollars if you pay a dealership to do it. If you're mechanically inclined, buy the service manual for $50 and do it yourself.

BTW, $1350 is a good price.
