DPR vs DCPR is only the hex, one is 18, one is 5/8, either is OK.

9 is the heat range. Pre T-storm or XB should (all 95-97, some 98) use heat range 8, all T-storm should use heat range 9.

E is the reach, 19mm

A is "Special Design" whatever that means. VX is platinum, IX is Iridium

The second 9 is the gap, which corresponds to .036. Regular electrodes can be gapped with standard gapping tools, Iridium plugs should not be gapped. I just checked a few in stock, the iridiums that we have in stock measured about .030, the regular NGKs mic'd in at .036.

Note: there has been some confusion on our plug numbers. The 5887 and 5889 numbers that are on our web site are American Sport Bike internal numbers and have nothing to do with the NGK part numbering system. NGK DOES have part numbers 5887 and 5889, but they are NOT the plugs for Buells.

I just bought a pair of NGK DPR9EA-9's for my 97 S1 and the terminals are smaller than the original plugs. Thus, my spark plug wires won't connect properly. Do I need new wires to fit the NGK plugs?

you need the screw on terminal nuts. We buy them separately and screw them onto the NGKs before we sell 'em.

Although - If you modify the HT leads to use NGK plug-caps they are easier to get on an off for plug checks and changes.
