I'm hoping that I have a very easy fix on my hands. I am leaking oil out of my '03 XB9's return oil line (from the cooler to the crankcase fitting on the filter housing. I think it's coming from the fitting into the case. Anyway, here is my question. What do I use as thread sealer (silicon? teflon tape?) It appears that there is something red between the fitting and case and looks like white teflon tape from the hose fitting into the case fitting. Also, is there a real need to torque these to specifications or only get them tight enough to line up at there proper location. Rock on.

Don't know what kind of connection it is. If it's a pipe thread use teflon paste. If you're not careful the tape can come loose in your system.

Check that there is no damage to the threads etc on the connectors too. If all is well then Teflon tape tend to work fine.
