No service manual? No problem. We're here to help.

Does your VR have 3 wires coming out of it or 4?

According to a 98 S3 manual (disclaimer -- your model's may be different), one wire is the charging wire that goes to the master circuit breaker, two wires go to a connector that goes to the stator and a fourth wire is a ground wire with a star-washer ring type terminal that attaches to the bottom of the VR and the other end goes to a ground point on the frame.

It has 4 wires. Good!! That's what I thought. I couldn't find a VR for my M2 here locally since the closes Buell dealer is 150 miles away. Lots of Harley dealers. So I found a 1994-2003 22amp XL Sportster VR. Cycle Electric Part# 25-328A
It should work because of same specs. I will, however, have to cut the sportster plug off the charging wire and hard wire to the Buell charging wire. Thank you very much for the info. (I need to spend the 50 bux on a service manual.)
