Hi all,
I have a question on a naming convention.
If the XBs have Thunderstorm engines dose this mean that all XBs have what people call Thunderstorm heads?
I am asking as my pistons are damaged and I want to replace with Wiscoes that say that they fit stock stroke engines with Thunderstorm heads (but keep the 10:1 compression). If anyone from Hillbilly is seeing this then they probably know the answer and know the pistons.

xb has "xb heads" with 7mm valves stem and guides with a flat top ( only the xb12) xb pistons , so if you stay with the stock heads you need the flat top wiseco kit with
...i don't remember if 10,00 or 10,50 C.R. .

The only Wiseco pistons I have seen that say they fit striate into the XB12 are 12:1 C.R.
Any idea who sells the Wisecos for an XB12 that are 10:1 or 10.5:1?

Here's a question I don't have the answer to... Since the bore/stroke are the same between the '04+ Sportster 1200 and the XB12, would the pistons designated as XL1200 work in an XB? I know a lot of guys on the XL forum are converting to 1200cc using the XB heads (myself included, picked up a set last night on Ebay), but I've been trying to figure out if the pistons are compatible.

I would venture a guess that the XB pistons would be lighter, but nobody I have talked to can confirm it.

The part numbers are obviously different between the XL and XB, but are there any real differences??

XB offers higher compression and each is likely tailored to the head they were designed for. Compression ratios are 10:1 for XB versus 9.7:1 for XL. If connecting rod length is the same for XB and XL, then you should be good to go with XB pistons and heads combined.

Gota agree with Blake there as a guess. I am not sure that the pistons are any lighter judging by holding one of mine out of my XB12.

Looks like I can save quite a few bucks as well by buying XB pistons over the XL!
