I swear i searched. I was about to buy a Race ECM but while inquiring as to why he was parting with it he mentioned it was due to his bike running very rice with a drummer because of his altitude. I also live in a high altitude and wondering then if a Race ECM is needed for a new pipe for me, drummer or others, please know your stuff as you respond, i dont want to blow up my bike, Thanks!

THe AFV will normalize the ECM for any altitude. A bike won't run any richer with a race ECM at altitude than it would at sea level, assuming that the bike is driven in such a way that the AFV re-learns.

From 5000 and up, a race ECM will run richer than what a drummer needs, assuming and AFV of 100 at sea level. But the opposite is true of the stock ECM, it will run a little leaner from 3200 and up. If cruised between 2-3000 RPM, the AFV will likely learn a little bit downwards for either ECM. If cruised between 3-4000 RPM, the AFV will likely learn a little upwards.

With a stock ECM, the worst condition is if you cruise in the lower RPM of the AFV learn range (lowering the AFV) and then run at a higher RPM. The lean condition will be made leaner by the AFV.

With a Race ECM, the worst condition if you cruise in the higher RPM of the AFV learn range (raising the AFV) and then run at a higher RPM. The rich condition will be made richer by the AFV.

Given a choice of the two, I'd take the rich condition. But there seems to be a lot of folks running stock ECMs with drummers. If I lived in a place with high summer ambients, I'd run rich. But if you have lots of altitude, maybe that isn't a big concern.

Thanks for the response Al, im doing my best to decifer it correctly (i think i have) maybe a follow up question would be helpful too.
I have read the Exhaust shootout and although i'm not super encouraged by the power characteristics of the D&D i didnt buy a buell to be faster, than... well anyone really. The sound of the D&D is very attractive. I shyed away from it because of the shootouts explanation of the Race ECM not really matching the pipe.
At my elevation can i run a D&D and postpone getting the dyno time to remapp an ecu (prolly eventually using your key thing Al) and not run into any dangerous lean conditions? Thanks in advance
