Hey guys;

In a thread a while back I read that bluing on the pipes is a sign of the bike running too hot. my headers are quite blue - what issues could I be running into?

How does the bike run, does it ping? Have you done any performance mods to free up the breathing and not compensated by richening the fuel mixture?

Does it have the stock stainless steel headers? Those can be cleaned up and polished dramatically with a little effort. The finish will turn a beautiful golden hue shortly and, surprisingly, stay bright for a long time.

And I think the whole "blue pipes means you are running hot" is just an urban legend.

bike runs fine - there is some engine noise but the Buell engines are known for that, no?

I am running Drummer, race filter, race ecm, swiss cheesed inner airbox, de-snorkeled.

I looked EVERYWHERE here in Canada for the Luster lace product mentioned in a thread on here but could not find it anywhere.

I've come across a metal polish, Adams metal polish, that I believe is superior to Luster lace. I've found the #1 polish works great on the headers and #2 works wonders on the shiny XB9R wheel rims. It's a little more expensive but it's the best I've found. And it's made right here in SoCal.

Adams detailing products are highly regarded by those who are into show cars and motorcycles as well as the average guy who wants to keep his ride looking showroom new with minimal effort.

There are useful online streaming videos in the site on how to detail a car from the ground up using his various products including the metal polishes and a dealers link where you can find a dealer near you in Canada. Or order online.

I an not so sure the colour is an urban legend. If you look at the pipes on most XB's they start out blue and change from there. It would stand to reason that the gasses are hottest straight out of the cylinder. I the pipes are mostly blue all along then perhaps it is running in the danger zone. Perhaps a trip to a workshop with a gas tester and a thermocouple would save you the possible engine rebuild.

I'vde yet to see a stock header that't not blue and gold.
That's the nature of the beast.
Just ride and enjoy
