Caused by a cager turning in front of me and me not paying attenion, with my hands off the bars stretching arms. I impacted car in an almost Tbone type angle but what saved the bike was it was more of a slanted T bone so it wasnt a complete Tbone. So the bike hit right side and kinda deflected to the left and bounced up and landed hard on the on the tail, which is the cause of most damage. I impacted at about 35mph and didnt have time to even hit the brakes. Never was able to get my hands back down to bars. Right at impact i remember "oh shit" and naturally kinda jumped up and did a complete superman over roof of car and landed on right back shoulder in a dive type roll. Barely a scratch due to gear but thought for sure my right foot, right leg and right shoulder was broke because i was hurting some thing fierce. Nothing broken some how but a deep bruise in my back right arm shoulder area.

All in all the damage is not that bad but the bike came down hard on the rear pillion and bent the shit out of the alluminum subframe tail and actually broke one of the mounting points. The following picture is not my bike but is exactly the same damage as mine but mine is the left upper mounting ear and is a 2004 12R..

How do I go about repairing this and is it even possible? I have no Insurance so thats not an option. Please tell me some good news. And does anyone know where to get a used straight subframe tail?

Thanks in advance..

Sorry to hear about your crash. I don't have much to offer except sympathy. I crashed at the track on Saturday and tore out the sub-frame boss on my 9R so I'm in the same boat as you. My first thought is to try to find a good aluminum welder to get some bosses put back on. Let me know what you find and I'll keep you posted likewise. BTW there's a new frame for sale in the classifieds asking $700. I haven't seen any sub-frames though.

What about the cagers insurance? Wouldn't it be his fault for turning in front of you? As for the sub frame, find out about getting it welded, but I would get a new one if it were me. I'm not sure it would ever be as strong as it was because of the location. Just my 2 cents.

Well my frame repair is complete, here are the before and after pictures. Had it done by a guy from our prototype shop at work. He built a jig to hold the frame in his drill press so he could bore out the mounts, then welded in sections of aluminum rod which he drilled and tapped. This should be stronger than stock - we'll see what breaks next. I was going to have him weld a break in my fairing support, but magnesium rod is $50/lb with 1lb minimum so we'll try some JB Weld.
