Anyone know how to get these screws out?

If they are Torx screws you can drill them out with a 1/4" drill. I'd drill a smaller hole first, 1/8" or so, and center it carefully.

When you use the 1/4" drill the heads should fall off and then you can unscrew the stubs with your fingers or maybe pliers. If you drill too deep you'll take the threads in the primary cover out.

The Torx screws can be troublesome, you have to make sure that you have good quality Torx drivers, clean Torx sockets, and keep the bit perfectly straight with the screw. The slightest angle and the driver will start eating up the Torx socket.

Also, on the tubers anyway, you wanted to loosen each screw about 1/4 turn at a time going around and around until they were all loose. If you just took one screw out it would jam the other two screws tight and they would break or get stripped. Reverse the process putting the cover back. Hold it flat against the primary compressing the spring, take the screws down to a touch, then go around them 1/4 turn at a time until they are tight.

Good idea to stay on the light side on the torque specs on those too. The aluminum in the primary cover is a little soft and granular and easily stripped.

Can these torx screws be swaped for maybe a hex or any other kind of screw?

They have them chrome plated and blister packed on the shelf at your local HD dealer... You local hardware store probably has something as well.

If it goes really badly, I had heli coils in 3 of those 4 holes on my M2 by the time I sold it. Never had a problem with them.

Bop on down to the local hardware store and grab 4 1/4-20 x 3/4" (maybe they are 1", I don't remember for sure...) stainless steel hex had cap screws.
I've used them for years on my M2 and S2.

Bluzm2, you may be right for the M2. But I put those screws on my XB and had to use a washer to hold the cover in.

Road_thing is on the money. And for anyone in the future. This is what I used:
1/4-20 x 3/4 Socket Head Cap Screws Stainless(you need 3 of these on an XB)
1/4 Split Lock Washers Stainless (for good measure ;)

That worked for me!
