I have a 04 XB12s and am getting a direct link and working with a local tuner who has tons of Harley exp. but no buell exp. Presently the bike is pinging when hot between 3500 and 4700 rpm with heavy throttle rollon. Can anyone suggest a good starting map? is there one that comes with the directlink software? Any cautions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The Map on the the Race ECM should already be tuned for the Race Muffler and K&N Filter ...
No Maps come with direct-link. You can buy them from American Sport Bike or like your are doing ... make your own .. |

Have you checked the static timing? I'd certainly do that before going down the mapping route. The spark maps in the ECM can be manipulated, and it is easy to pull some advance out at particular RPMs and throttle positions if the issue is specific to a particular operating point. But if the static timing is just a little bit advanced, the advance that is in those tables may be enough to send it over the edge into ping.
We do have a map with for the XB12 race kit with an open airbox installed. We haven't fully beta tested it though. That is to say, it was developed on the dyno, it should be pretty darn close, but it hasn't been road tested to verify that there isn't an AFV skew issue with it.
There is no reason to believe that the stock race kit needs any changes at all. Some smart people at Buell developed that map for those particular components and it probably would be hard to improve on it much without a bunch of dyno and beta test time.

Al, Thanks for the advice I'll be sure and check the static timing and see if that cures it before I change anything. The tuner here has a wideband o2 sensor to store data from a run on the road also so that we can check how she is running. Any other cautions or hints? Thanks for the input |

How about XB12X with race kit and 07 airbox? Mine runs well, but not so good mileage and I think it is running somewhat rich in open loop.
