This is to complete my previous post about the BRAKING wave front rotor. The OEM rotor gives better stopping power than the wave rotor. I think because the OEM rotor has a greater pad-rotor contact surface area than the wave rotor. This might prove useful in hard use during track-days. The BRAKING wave front rotor gives better handling for the bike, because it is lighter than the OEM rotor. So less steering input is required and you get easier turning in the corner. BUT you need more force on the handle to get the same stopping power. It also gets hotter than the OEM, because you get less pad-rotor surface contact area. If someone installs the wave rotor, he MUST INSTALL THE EBC HH PADS. They are the only ones that can cope with the extra heat of the wave rotor. My next step is to use the EBC racing pads that can cope with even higher rotor temperatures and so might give better stopping power. Maybe this way the wave rotor will give good stopping power, combined with its benefit of better handling. | ||

Vagelis46 I am interested in your test because I will be running the Braking Wave rotor this year on my track bike. I currently have Braking CM55 pads on it but will not be on the track till April. I also have a new set of Buell racing pads that I will try after the CM55 pads are done. I have heard that the Buell racing pads are the best but I have not yet found out for myself. The Buell racing pads are also very expensive. I am also using Motul brake fluid which I heard will help with brake fade as well. I have drilled out all the holes in the rear rotor with a 1/2" bit to lose about 1/3lb of rotating mass as well. Looking forward to getting on the track. Come on summer! | ||

Neb25, I would be careful with the wave front rotor, if the XB is used for track days. You might find thet the braking force is slightly reduced. The bike gets more flickable with the wave rotor. Try it and if you do not like it, put the OEM back. Regarding the Braking CM55 pads, I would definately choose EBC FA345HH, any day! They fade less with heavy use. I would also try EBC GFA345HH, since they are designed for racing use. |
