04 Xb12S Last week front tire went flat. After much searching found leak coming out of one of the spring holes that push out on disc ..Has anyone heard of this problem before??Is there a recall on this? I'am out of warranty, so I'am not sure what the best fix is...
Thanks...Mark

If it was me I'd take the disc off to be able to access the hole better. Put a little soapy water or something in it and try to see where the leak is. Drill it out or grind a little then patch with JB Weld and rethread the hole. If the leak is not in the hole but on the surface of the wheel the same thing will fix it. If you can get to the flaw it's a good idea to grind it out a little bit.

Break the bead. Paint the inside of the pinhole with several coats of bead sealer. You should be able to do this with the wheel on the bike.

Thanks for the advice.... I talked to buell today and the service tech said that he had never heard of this problem before, and he has been with buell for 7 years..
I'am currently thinking of pulling the tire and see if I can find where the air is entering the casting..Once located then hope that will give direction on how to fix/replace.. New wheel is 375.00. Are there any discount places for parts like this???
Thanks again...Iceman

thats just it it is a casting no years of experience counts here. So what one has showed up in almost forever. Cast parts and have holes and imperfections.

Picked up a couple of used wheels on Craigslist this summer... Just found out why the front won't hold air. (Goes totally flat overnight.)

Air is leaking from the base, where the rotor mounting boss meets the rim on 4 out of six mounting points?

Anyone ever seen that or know if it's fixable? Slime!?

That's a new one. Any cracks or evidence of other damage?

I'd imagine it's leaking from cracks. I don't think this is random casting porosity here. (Although I did get a brand new Edelbrock intake a long time ago that had a BIG coolant leak, right through the casting before I ever even fired up the engine!)

After finding the 4 leaking areas I didn't dry the wheel off & finish cleaning the brake dust buildup out of the affected areas to see. When I put the soapy water on it, the bubbles immediately form along a line straight down from the rotor bolts.

The tire itself has definitely had a good track workout & the rim has seen its fair share of rough tire changes, as evidenced by the missing powder coating on this side. But it doesn't look like the rim has taken any fatal hits anywhere which is weird. The brake rotor has definitely been HOT a few times I'm sure, but still...

I've just never seen this kind of damage before. I might throw some SLIME in there & see if that will get it to hold air until I can finish running the tread off this one & then I think it'll be time to call this wheel, toast! Spare bearings / rotor / wall art. Guess my Craigslist find didn't turn out to be such a good deal after all...
