Ok...I feel tired and like an idiot...but when I put the micron header on, do I need to put the retaining ring and the original dohickey thing that the retaining ring holds on? Do I need to put those on the micron header as well? the instructions talk about a gasket, but I don't see one.
Someone please help...
I tried searching and reading... I want to ride....

Just rereading my question after searching the boards with no luck.
I think my question is screwed up originally.
Do I need to reuse the retaining clip and that piece in the middle of the above pic when installing the micron header, or do I just use what is included on the micron header and bin the those original pieces. (ala no retaining clip at all...)

I'd think that you will need the retaining clip, but not the old flange. I'm assuming that you can slip the Micron flange over the end of the Micron header? If so, then you certainly need to use the retaining ring. It is clamped against the flare in the end of the header by the flange. This is what creates the system that holds the header in place. The gasket is in the head. You need to replace those (or you "should" anyhow). They're easy to get out, the now ones are a bit of a prick to install w/o smashing them. Take your time, be gentle.

Do NOT over tighten the header nuts. I recommend that you put them on as tight as they're supposed to be, then run another nut up against them so they can't back off. You do NOT want a broken header stud.

The micron header has a flange on it, and a lip so it can't fall off. So then I don't need the original flange and retaining clip??? Will there be a space between the flange and the head then when I bolt the header on?
can anyone with a micron system take a pic of the front header where it bolts to the head so I can see how it mates up spacially?
Thanks

You don't need the retaining clip. the flanges are captive on a Micron.

But you should tighten it correctly with new SE gaskets in it. Stock gaskets only work well with a micron if you radius the tips. 7-9 ft lbs, each time after the first 5 heat cycles, on the three you can get to. Do the one you can't a little higher than that on the first tighten since you won't be able to get to it again once you rotate the engine up.
