Converting a 99 X1 to carb and was hoping someone that had done this before could point me in the right direction about how to re-wire to accept the new ignition module (Crane Hi4E)

The instructions that come with the Hi-4 are good, but they assume you're starting out with a carb. The gray wire to your ECM is the switched 12v. You will need a timing cup (rotor) and special bolt. While you're at the dealer pick up a VOES (vacuum operated electrical switch, not necessary but cheap, easy to install and worthwhile.

Not sure about your stock single fire coil. Try it with the Hi-4 in single fire mode. if it dosen't work, get a stock dual fire coil from any carbed sportster and switch back to dual fire.

Gooseman, Just checked some manuals and the coils are way different resistance wise. Just get a coil for a carbed sporty. The lower resistance FI coil might fry the Hi-4.
