I'm getting an intermittent check engine light.

When I hook it up the my VDSTS software/cable the code history is: "14 Engine T.: Open Circuit/Short Circuit to Battery"

I checked that the ground strap is secure and checked battery connections. The battery is new and the voltage regulator is new. The stator checks out with both resistance/continuity test and output voltage.

I did notice that the back of the key switch gets extremely hot to touch. Not sure that it should be getting this hot. Seems like it shouldn't if it is making good contact.

One final symptom: If I am cruising along when the check engine light comes on, I notice the engine "misses/studders" for a second, then smoothes back out.

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy!!

My guess is that your switch is bad. Heat indicates a poor path (high resistance). The intermittent hiccup would also indicate the ignition circuit is opening up.

With that info the shop should be able to say it's the switch and change it out.

OK, bought a new key switch from DaveS. The new one stays nice and cool now.

However, I am still getting the intermittent check engine light and stumble! Hooked up the VDSTS software/cable and again has code history of "14 Engine T.: Open Circuit/Short Circuit to Battery".

History: Had charging problem when I bought it. Replaced voltage regulator and battery. Battery is now charging fine.

I'm at a loss as to what is causing this now. I'm open to all suggestions. Anyone?
