I've got some basic numbers for some combinations at our shop (all SAE). I don't have a scanner so I'll have to post the graphs at a later date. Keep in mind this dyno typically reads 5-10hp less than others in the area.


My '96 S1 with a stock motor except for roller rockers, chain drive, CV mods, Buell race header, S&S aircleaner w/K&N and supertrapp universal 4" external disc put out 75hp and 78ft-lbs, 5th gear. It sounded good and had great midrange but I found myself bouncing it off the revlimiter quite a bit in the lower gears.

After '04 style heads, 42mm Mikuni, 10.5:1 pistons (mechanical CR set at 10.75:1), Andrews N9, S&S lifter limiters, adj. pushrods, screaming eagle springs, Dyna S dual fire ignition and rev limiter, it made 96hp@6700rpm and 82ft-lbs@4500rpm, 5th gear. Best power was with 13:1 A/F ratio. The bike got so loud (valve sizes and CR I'm guessin') that I wear earplugs every time I ride it. The power comes on real hard down low and makes it entertaining though more difficult to ride. Engine braking is truly immense and downshifts have to be more precise. Blipping the throttle too much or going to a lower gear too soon has a much bigger effect than before. Overall very fun but much harder to ride fast through tight corners. I've since opened the exhaust up more, put a cooler range NGK plugs than HD 10R12's, installed a big bore intake manifold, and geared it up some (numerically lower) to tame her some. I also modified the mechanical advance mechanism for better starting/idle and response (limiting the total advance). I plan on doing some dyno tuning with race gas (this thing is marginal with pump gas being at sea level and all, and having a single, fixed advance rate doesn't help things, either). Me thinks it should break 100rwhp. As it is it makes 3hp more than an '07 FXDSE 110" with a K&N aircleaner, Rinehart 2into1 and a Race Tuner set to a 13.5:1 A/F. To its credit that bike pulls around 110ft-lbs, which is impressive.

An '04 XB12S with Pro Series air filter, front airbox opening, removed snorkel, race ECM, and drummer SS put out 87hp@6800rpm and 71ft-lbs@4400rpm, 4th gear. Interestingly, torque stayed completely flat from 4400 to 6200rpm. The sound of this pipe some love. It's like an American pushrod V-8 with a set of Flowmasters. The throttle response it great and it does ridiculously easy and smooth 1st gear wheelies and can put it up in second without clutching it up.

'05 XB12R with K&N aircleaner, removed snorkel, race ecm, and home gutted muffler (essentially left an empty shell with bulkheads intact and a 2-1/4" outlet) made 88hp@6700rpm and 72ft-lbs@3700rpm, 5th gear. This bike had more in it torque-wise as it had a midrange lean spot spanning 3000-4500 rpm. It felt smooth riding it despite the torque dip from 4000-5500rpm. It had a tendency to detonate once hot @high throttle openings in the upper gears. I believe it has been removed. The sound was great, with a hard, sharp tone at idle and rich mellow tone on the road.

Stock '03 XB9. 70hp@6400 rpm and 60ft-lbs@5500. It probably made more horsepower but the jackass owner did the run himself and must have thought it had a 6400rpm redline! XB9's are super smooth but the lack of power is disconcerting
