quick question bout my 03 blast....it seems to hit rev-limiter at 78 mph or so which is troublesome when riding on i-77 (getting passed by semis while going 80mph) to work and back...while looking at other forums for advice on how to resolve the prob i keep coming across people talking about 5th gear.... which makes me think i may have tranny issues b/c my blast will not shift past 4th...not too familiar w/ the bikes specs. was a graduation gift...does anyone know if i am just retarded and have another gear or does the blast top out at 80mph....i am a very small guy(5-7 115lbs) and love the fact of the light-weight bike and and that i am able to rip it around corners in town with ease compared to my friends on gsxr and the like.. i really appreciate any info that can get me more speed out of my buell..looked into screamin eagle adjustable ignition, big bore kit, and the like.. thanks

Metall -- there IS a fifth gear on your Blast -- if you can't shift into it, there's a problem somewhere's -- first things to check (easy, too) are your clutch adjustment and primary chain tension (you DO have the service manual, doncha?)

I'd make sure you were able to access all the performance ya got (like fifth gear) before you tore into the motor, though

you're balst will embarrass larger scoots in very technical sections --

You definatly have a problem. Rev limit in 5th gear is around 95mph. With your size and weight, you should be able to bump that on a good flat road pretty easy.

Check out the Thumper forum. Talk to EZ or ErikO. They will know exactly what your problem is...

If I remember right - the shift detent dealie is prone to failure. It could be as simple as that. Cheap part, but you have to open up the tranny to replace it.

Good Luck

Not open the tranny, just the primary drive cover is all. : )
