Anyone have any feedback on this jacket? In XXL(my size) it goes for $620. My local dealer is going to have a 20% sale in a few days making it $496. The jacket is VERY nice, fits well. It has a heat liner that is supposed to keep u at 98*. Fully waterproof. You can remove any of the 3 sections in the jacket. It has a kidney belt, etc. Real nice jacket.

The other one I am looking at is the Icon Daytona($350). If I buy the Icon and a summer jacket I may as well just buy the HD one.

Input?
TIA,
Cord

All around wear is fine but you must consider protection as the main factor here. How is the padding in the shoulders, elbows and back? is it CE approved? Ultimately your choice but thats the main thing I would look for. Most of the Harley clothing line is based on the me too look and not too much in the way of protection other than thick bulky leather, if it fits your riding style and offers an adequate amount of protection should you go down then I say go for it.

Hammer is right on the money. Here are the questions I ask myself when considering a leather purchase.

First question: does it suit your riding style?

Second question: does it offer adequate protection? and/or is it upgradeable?

third question: Does it fit your body?

fourth question: how does it look?

Last question: How does it look? colors etc.

That's how I prioritize it. I looked at the fxrg stuff in passing and it looks to be a nice
quality set of gear. I think Motorcycledaily.com reviewed the jacket recently...

I found it here: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/26october06_fxrg.ht m
I met the guys from motorcycledaily.com when I was living in So-Cal and I have a lot of
faith in their judgment and integrity. Besides note the Bike Alex is on in the first pic!;)

Thanks for the replies gents. The review you linked me to makes me feel even better! That is the exact jacket I'm looking at.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "does it fit my riding style?" I'm not super aggressive so I don't think race gear to be 100% appropriate. Mostly street riding.

The jacket has removable/replaceable inserts in the shoulders and elbows. It fits me quite well. I'm 6 foot 220 Lbs. The Icon XL fits extremely snug, almost uncomfortable in the chest. A size up and the sleeves are too long. The HD jacket is comfortable all over, yet snug enough it won't twist.

CE approved? I dunno.... I don't think either the Icon or HD jacket is.

well you cut right to the heart of the matter as far as the question about your riding style.
You have, I'm sure, heard a lot of people give the excuse that their leather is too hot, or
uncomfortable for this kind of riding or that kind.

That is because they had their priorities on the questions to ask backwards.

I also forgot one of the most important criteria, The leathers you buy don't do a bit of good
if you don't wear them. So they need to be something you like to wear. Even when
it's hot out, or if you're just going a mile or so.

If the jacket has armor pockets in it you can always upgrade non-CE pads with the good stuff!
So don't sweat that detail overly much ;)

IMO if your going to be paying 500.00 plus for a jacket why go with a mass manufactured jacket? You can get a custom made jacket for a little bit more. There are many advantages to this.

1) Offers better protection because it fits you perfectly. It was made to fit YOU!

2) Offers the best in customization. You get the colors, and graphics you choose!

3) Quality 99% of the time is better than you would get on a mass produced jacket. This applies only if you go with someone that has been in the business for a bit and is known. If you choose to go with a no name that has never made a jacket most likely you wont get something good. Then again I doubt you would pay 500.00 plus for a jacket from one of these shops.

4.) In addition to colors and graphics YOU can choose what venting (if any) you want and where.

I could keep going but I think you get the idea. If your spending this much money get something custom that will most likely outperform a mass produced item in almost every way.

Well for my budget(good job, married, 3 kids) $500 is a lot of money for a jacket. Worth it to protect my a$$ though.

This jacket would be year round. I will not wear textile, MAYBE on the hottest summer days. 99% of the time I'd be in leather.

You have to see this jacket in person to appreciate the quality even if it is mass produced, I doubt they are making as many of these as they are t-shirts.

Where would one begin to look into a custom jacket? I like the idea but I wouldn't know where to start.

I have one, with the pants, and I love it. Been wearing it for a year and a half. It is very comfortable, tons of pockets and features, and with the snap in/out liner it is very versitile. It is my every day gear and it is comfy up to about 80 or so degrees, then it gets hot, even with the venting. Hope this helps,

I keep going back to the Icon even though I know the HD jacket is superior all around. I think looks are drawing me to Icon.

Thanks again guys, I'll let you know what I decide. The HD jacket is the smarter choice I think......

Just bite the bullet and get the H-D. It is pricey, but worth it. It is such a great jacket.

I have two friends with the very same jacket.
They both love them. They are very warm with the liner in and no too warm on average days (below 75 degrees).
One comment was the "back" pocket. It has a tendancy to billow and puff up sometimes.
Depends on the bike I guess and riding style.
Both love the back support/kidney belt feature.
One friend has the matching pants, he loves them too.
Both fit great and don't flap around.

$500 is a very good price, both my friends paid about $600 or so.

I haven't had any puffing issues on mine, but I will tell you, the kidney belt has saved my back on many all-day rides.

Looks like a very nice jacket. I would go with the leather especially here in the NW. I have a leather jacket (not as nice as the one you are looking at) and I love how it keeps me worm even at 34 degrees. I just need to wear a sweat shirt of some sort to help line the coat from direct contact with my arms. Otherwise it feels cold.

I bought one 6 years ago and it is the best piece of riding equipment I have ever bought. This is a quality riding jacket not a poser or ricky racer look good jacket. You will love it. The liner makes it waterproof too.

I have the FXGR jacket and I'd give it a thumbs up. Its versatile with lots of nice features. Its comfortable from freezing temps to ~80*F. I'll wear mesh above 80*F. I believe it comes with a 4 year warranty.

I just realized I have an FXRG jacket! I got it back in 99 or 2000 & it's a great jacket. You gotta look really close to see any HD badging & it's comfortable & flexible as in not stiff. When I got mine it was only $400 which at that time I thought was an ungodly amount.
I crash tested it once on my Sporty. Other than a 4" hole worn through the right fore arm, it survived a 40ish mph low side without a scratch even with me sliding on my back for about 30 ft. It protected me quite well.
I havn't worn mine in about two years since I discovered textile but after reading this I had to pull it out of the closet & try it on.

On edit: I think I'm gonna start wearing it again because it is a really cool jacket. And the hole in the forearm kinda adds character

If you are going to spend that kind of money, I'd seriously give Vanson a look.

100% crash tested on my part... and how many times in your life can you say you have something that is the best in the world?

Vanson was on my short list when I was in the market for a jacket. However, I couldn't find a shop that had them in stock. For the money, I'd have to try one on. I'm sure they are worth it.

The HD is where it's at. Really comfortable and on the cold days the inside liner is awesome. Plenty of pocket room and padding. It was a little expensive but well worth it. If anyone is interested I may be selling mine for a smaller size. I have a large and I'll sell it for $400 after the HELLidays.

Well I went down on the 16th(day of the sale) and got it. Paid $476, big thanks to Christy and Paradise HD. Worth every penny, warm, safe, and versatile. I'm very happy with the purchase. Thanks for the feedback guys!
