Hi Guys, anybody out there know of a condition in the transmission that results in the tranny getting stuck between 2nd and 3rd, up or down shifting and now is slipping out of 2nd gear when motoring around in 2nd gear 1500 to 3000 rpms? I'm now in a position where I won't enter a corner in 2nd or 3rd fearing it will pop out or auto shift"clutchless" to 2nd!!!! 23000 miles plus? Now in extended warranty-will this be covered in the warranty?First dealership couldn't find the issue, but was nice enough to charge me a $37.00 fee to use my gas to ride my bike for 1/2hr!!!!

Could be worn dogs on the gears. 2nd gear is usually the first place you see tranny
problems.

Alternatively it could be bent shifter forks.

These kind of problems aren't terribly common on cruisers because they aren't usually
ridden as hard as sport bikes, so I'm not surprised that there is a H-D dealer that was
not familiar with such problems.

I have used acceleration & deceleration, in and through second gear as a sort of acid test
for used bikes I've considering buying. Many have failed the test over the years.

On the tuber, I held one of shifter forks in my hand, and I doubt you bent those, the things are pretty massive.

The reason I had the forks out though were because my 2nd gear dogs were worn and it would pop out of gear : (

Bad news on an XB, you have to split the cases. I would probably check the shifter pawl adjustment, just because it is fairly easy to get at without splitting the cases, but I would not be holding out a lot of hope.

You could always turn lemons into lemonade though, there are some good tuners that could make your XB the bees knees.

This sounds similar to the issue I have with my tranny. I had a complete rebuild and now the bike shifts fine but the shift lever gets stuck. Checkout this video I posted of my bike, and let me know if you have the same issue.
