Royal Enfield clear Cafe Screen fits really well on the Lightning fly screen. Good value. Only $50. Mounted it right on top, like the Ulysses clear wind shield mounts on its fly screen. Deflects the wind to top of helmet instead of chest. Not too much protection, not too little, just right to keep the naked bike feel. Will try to post pics soon.

All credit goes to Bill who posted pics of his yellow Lightning with the Royal Enfield cafe screen a while ago. I got the screen from Classic Motorworks. The screen keeps off enough wind to make interstate riding more pleasant but I'm still fully aware I'm on a motorcycle (lots of wind on the arms still). I attached the screen with stainless steel bolts and nuts, rubber grommets around the bolts to fill the spaces between the RE screen and the Lightning fly screen, and nylon washers next to the nuts. The rubber washers allow a bit of play. If you want less play, Bill's solution of nylon spacers cut to size is the best approach (because the Lightning fly screen is asymmetrical, to accomodate for the tach, whereas the RE screen follows a symmetrical curve). I did a test run on an old, scratched XB9 screen. I will probably mount it as much as an inch higher on the Lightning Long screen. Email me if you want to see views.

This is my answer to making my Ss comfortable for long day-rides of up to 700km. Some like it, some don't but it sure works well.

Modified Givi A620 screen. Guzzi Griso mirrors. Buzzetti 300gm bar weights. Fiam airhorns. Ventura luggage.

How much work was it to get the windscreen to fit? Any other pictures from different angles? I like the looks of it.

Graham,

Thanks for the link. I'm impressed with the ingenuity and craftsmanship evident in the project. It looks almost factory. I couldn't pull off the mods myself so am wondering if the stock mounting system would work if not be as clean.}

Hi,Gotj

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, the stock screen could work. It comes with fittings for connecting the lower mounts to fork legs. There is a protective "rubber eyebrow" around the stock cutout for a single round headlight which is fixed with a contact adhesive strip and could be pulled off if desired.The adhesive could be removed with a suitable solvent not aggressive to polycarbonate. I use "Prepsol", a local product used to remove wax from car bodies prior to repainting. Turps or meths might also do the job.
