Hi everyone I’m new at bad web and new to Buells too, actually, I’m kinda new with motorcycles too, this is my second bike and the previous one was bought for learning purposes only. A good friend of mine have just sold me a Reactor yellow 99 Cyclone M2, 5K miles on it, it is fitted with a forcewinder intake and K&N filter, a V&H exhaust and a X1 gage cluster and fairing as the main mods, it cost me $3400 including a matching Vanson jacket. I think it was a very good deal, if you disagree, please don’t let me know, as I’m very happy with my purchase. Well, the reason I’m writing is that the previous owner did none of the recalls, and I was wondering if it is safe to ride the bike as it is, and if after all these years, Buell would still replace the parts that were under the recall. The “only” problem is that I’m in central Mexico, so no Buell dealers are close but if there was any, I don’t even know exactly what parts are involved in the recalls and why should they be replaced, if someone know, please share it with me. I would like to know if there is any other thing I should know about my new bike to make it last and perform great as long as possible, as I plan to ride it until my grandson’s have the age to ride it, then I will pass it to them. (I have no kids yet, so this may take a while, so any advice is welcome). Mack | ||

Thanks Court, Now, specifically talking about safety, what do I need to do immediately? (I'd like to keep my skin attached). I found this rear shock on ebay (See pic), it's from a 99 M2 but it's different than mine, is this the replaced shock under the recall? I read a service bulletin that all new shocks have an external oil reservoir, are there shocks without it that are OK? Thanks for the help. Mack  | ||

MACK: I just bought a 00 Cyclone myself and your shock looks exactly like mine does. I am new to this site and Buells also.But from what I understand Buell came out with a safety hardware kit to strengthen the original shock and then came out with a new replacement shock later.I am still trying to get some info on whether my local dealer will replace the shock. Start out by jotting down the VIN and talking to a dealer. The dealer will be able to tell you precisely what recalls have and have not been done to the Buell. From there it's a simple matter of comparing what's been done vs. what needs to be doen and making an action plan. | ||

Brutis, I made some research last night, and found out that the shock shown in the previous picture is the original Showa with the Shock reinforcement package, this SRP will not prevent the breakage of the shock, but it will prevent that the shock or other parts drag in the ground and cause loss of control, so what you need is this one:  I'ts easy to recognize because it has a remote reservoir, I bought it last night at ebay for $122 from a guy that also had a new one, that one was sold for $222. I couldn't wait to check with a dealer if they would or would not replace it because my shock does not have the SRP, and even if they accept to change it, I read that you have to take your bike to a dealer and have it changed, they will not give you the parts, and since my bike is in Mexico, that would be a minor inconvenience.
