I have power to lights, fuel pump but when i hit the start button, nothing happens, not a click, no dimming of head lights nothing....

Could it be the relays and/ or the diode thats in the fuse box?

The manual says to check diode continuity. Is that the same as a basic continuity/ohms setting on the meter or is therr a special setting on the DMM for diode continuity? I get nothing between the leads on diodes with continuity test feature on DMM....

It seems like this has got to be something simple...Can you pick up relays and diode from any parts store or do i have to go to HD?

Thanks in advance

Chuck

Check the starter solenoid wire at the starter. It is the small diameter wire with a female spade connector. Mine has rattled loose a couple times. I spent fifteen minutes trying to push start the damn bike in the dark before someone with a flashlight came by the first time it happened.

If all else fails, you might have to check error codes. If I understand it, if your module "sees" an overtemp or other condition, it may not let you start the motor.

Somewhere there is a "secret decoder ring" - a way to short the leads on the ECM diagnostic plug and then read the blinking light on the panel. Sequence of blinks tells you what the error is.

Too lazy to look it up myself.

Sounds like it MIGHT be sumpin like that.

I have heard other people having this problem with the kickstand switch too.

1) transmision in Neutral?
2) kill switch in "run" position?
3) both ends of each battery cable CLEAN and TIGHT?
Report back with status of these preliminary checks, then we shall troubleshoot further.

Thanks for the fast reply guys....

This is what i found..

1) Pulled the relays to check them and found if i have plastic cover off the starter relay i could start the bike by pushing on the top of the relay... This is with the key on.
2) I then started wiggleing the diode around while i pushed the start button and got the bike to start turning over, so i cleaned diode real good and seems to be working fine now.
3) Im due for anew battery but i did clean and tighten both the positive and ground at battery and at the body where the ground bolts to....That was all corrodedand alittle loose so i installed new nut and washers..

Now when i turn key on sometimes my oil light does not come on at the dash ihave to turn the key off and back on...Probably the diode? What do you think? Where can iget one of those at HD of Kragen?

I have had a wierd thing with my fan, that when i stop and turn off bike the fan does not come on and i have to turn run switch off and on to get it to come on....That happens just sometimes... The Diode?

Once again guys thanks...
My warranty is coming to an end Nov 25 so i will taking down to dealer to check and fix a few things so iwill have them check as well....

By the way Its a 2004 12R with 19000 miles
with a complete rebuild of top and bottom end at 11000 due to defective crank...Thats What they told me... Warranty covered all...
