Looking for some information on the Buell pro series race ECM that is avalible for my '02 x1. I'm planning on some minor bolt on performance upgrades, V&H muffler, open air box, and race ECM. Ive read that the new XB style bikes need to have the throttle position sensor re-programed when the race ECM is installed, is this also true for my '02 X1? and is the ECM easy to install? Also, let me know what ya'll think of the upgrades i have listed. Will they work well together? What can i realisticly expect to see when it comes to better performance, drivability and gas mileage? I trust you guys know the correct answers. Thanx.

A pic of my bike...

Yes, all EFI Buells require a TPS reset/rezero whenever a new ECM is installed. This is to tell the ECM the voltage coming from the TPS that indicates when the throttle is completely closed. Since that TPS output voltage varies from bike to bike every new ECM must be recalibrated in order to ensure that it has an accurate number for that vitally important EFI parameter.

The ECM is a simple install, a couple screws and a plug/connector. For the X1, you will notice a significant improvement with the modifications you mention, not to peak HP, but the mid-range should come up significantly. Take a look through the dyno charts in the Knowledge Vault and you'll likely find one for a configuration that is close to what you are running.

Thanx Blake, thats some good info. Now... how do I go about reseting the TPS. Do I have to go to the dealer, or is there another way?

Either have your dealer perform it or purchase the VDSTS by Techno-Research, available at American Sport Bike and do it yourself.

If your computer doesn't have a native RS232 port to connect it to, you'll want to get one of these too:

The actual TPS reset task is pretty simple once you have the SW.
