Check all the wires from battery to starter motor paying careful attention to where the wires join the ring connectors inside the protective sheaths. Wiggle them in your fingers as they may look sound even when they are hanging by a thread and not giving good if any conductance.

Check the wiring at the ignition and coil. If those major wires around the battery and starter are definitely good you need to start digging deeper. Start with the basics.

The fact you say it starts then dies and the lights go blank (I'm assuming you mean idiot lights) suggests you're losing either the live feed from the ignition circuit or battery feed or the ground is problematic.

What Rocket said, plus, make sure, that you've got a perfectly good battery.
