bike runs great when cold or warm but when it gets hot and you go up to 5000 is feels like your hitting the rev limiter, except much harder. sometimes if you get on it, it will die instead of cutting out. when a mechanic at the shop test rode it he came back and the fuel pump (and light) wasn't coming on. finally it did. we pressure checked the fuel system and that is ok. anyone have a clue.

Chances are when you say, "sometimes if you get on it, it will die instead of cutting out", that sounds like a temporary lean condition caused by a lack of sufficient accelerator pump output to keep the engine firing under extreme demand conditions. My Briggs & Stratton lawnmower engine will do the same thing because its carburetor doesn't have an accelerator pump, and it will die if I open the throttle too rapidly. I don't know if this helps you, I'm just trying to put things together based on my experience.

any input is nice. i'm leanin towards fuel problem but when we did the fuel pressure test the pressure was good even while the bike was cutting out. the part baffles us is that the bike runs perfect before it gets hot. i'm use to being on the XBoard i forgot to mention that its a 2004 XB12S. i'm starting to think its a sensor. my 02 or heat sensor. I work at a Harley shop but they don't have much experience with Buells.

My S3T has been doing this between 4-5K too. I've had it in the shop 3 times - and now have decided that if it's going to get fixed, I'm going to have to figure it out for myself.

I've read practically every thread. The contenders are:

* Intake seals
* TPS
* Timing
* Dirty Injectors
* Bad plugs/wires
OR - Any one of the following sensors:
* Air Intake
* Head Temp
* O2

Basically unless you're a certified mechanic and smarter than the guys at the harely shop, you're screwed...

Replace/check everything one thing at a time. If its the last thing you check/replace that's causing the problem, this could cost you several hundred dollars and take you the better part of a week.

I'm just not going to ride mine anymore.... just kidding).

Add ignition coil to the list. That is one item that is notorious for heat related insulation breakdown or failure due to vibration. Rare, but it happens.

Don't know of a convenient way to check for spark while running the bike except maybe for those gimmick spark plug accessories that flash with high voltage. Perhaps substituting the coil with a known good one is the best course.

Keep us posted.

Mine has never thrown a code either - well, I mean the engine light has never come on....
