Alright guys as the title says im having issues with my Ss. She wont start, she turns over and every thing sounds fine she just doesnt fire up. the only anomaly is the fuel pump doesnt always come on with the ignition, and when it does it sounds very strained. the trouble code i receive is 33. so i try to go through the flow chart as best as possible first step is to connect break out box, well i dont have one, but it also says with the ignition on pump should run 2-3 sec, well it doesnt so logic says no. then a couple of continuity checks, both good. next it says new fuel pump, then ecm. is there something else i can do. i already have an appointment next week for service, bikes brand new so i have plenty of warranty, but id rather not take it in if i dont have to.

Are you getting spark? If so, maybe good continuity doesn't necessarily mean the fuel pump is good? Try toggling the kill switch? |

yeah i get spark it just doesnt seem to be getting fuel. the good continuity means its more likely to be the fuel pump vs a wire problem. |

My XB9 '03 got the same error 33...I have was having gas starvtion hiccups on the way to work...limped back home and the bike finally went dead as I rolled into the garage. You really don't need the breakout box if you can read the wiring schematics; I got the DVM and checked all continuity- all was good. It sure looks like a dead fuel pump...which by the way is a b**ch to replace when the rear tire and swingarm has to be taken out. Your lucky to have the warranty. Looks like this will be a winter project for me. Let us know what the HD stealer does to get your ride going. BTW, reading thru some posts...the bad fuel pump issue seems to happen more often than some would thought- there's a story where a brand new bike's pump had to be replaced so the new owner can ride the bike out of the lot...geez. |

unfortunately i didn't have any warning. I'd been driving around for about 2 hours, and had made a couple of stops, then at my last stop is when she wouldn't start, at a petsmart 15 miles from the house. |

I'm wondering what it is that you expect. You've been advised by someone who experienced the same exact problem that your fuel pump is likely faulty.
Your fuel pump is likely faulty.
Your bike is under warranty.
What else would you need to know? Or do you just want to bitch and whine for no reason? |

your right i'm sorry for bitching and whining here.
even though when i posted it i was pretty sure i knew i had a bad fuel pump, and was asking for other ideas of things to check before taking it in for service.
your also right in the fact that someone else had a similar problem (trouble code 33) but did you fail to notice that i did not have any of his other symptoms.
you again are right, the bike is under warranty, and i did take it into the dealer.
all i was trying to do was avoid a 120 mile round trip, twice, to drop off the bike at my nearest dealer.
so again i'm sorry, and i'll try not to bitch and whine next time for no reason.

Yeah,Blake.A bit harsh.As I read it he was seeking more information to be sure of his problem.Kinda like asking doctors for a second opinion.
And,yes,the KV does sometimes get kinda ignored. |

so i got the bike back the middle of last week, it was in fact the fuel pump. |

Glad to hear the bike was fixed...just bought a fuel pump from ebay...hope it works. Changing the pump sucks in winter time but need to get it going before it gets really cold here in Chicago and ready for the Spring season. |

Rather than start a new thread, I'll just piggyback on this one. Rode the bike last night without any issues. This morning, the temperatures were below freezing for the first time this season. When I turned on the ignition, all of the lights came on as expected. When I pressed the starter button, all of the lights went out, and nothing else happened. Bike is completely dead. Ideas? I was running late for work so took the BMW instead but I'd like to get the XB12Ss up and running again... |

Looks like it was the old "loose battery connection" problem. Tightened up the bolts and it fired right up. I think I'll get a couple of washers this weekend to space the bolts out a bit so I can tighten them down better (that's easier than grinding the bolts down as I've heard others do). |
