I was wondering if anyone has made up any funnel-type device for pouring engine or gearcase oil into the XB. We did the fluids the other day and made a huge mess trying to get fluid in through the front inspection cover opening especially.  | ||

I just use a funnel with a long flexible end on it. Picked it up at Canadian Tire. YMMV. | ||

I have a $2 plastic funnel with a 7 inch neck on it I use for both. It works great for removing the used oil and putting the new in. I've about got it down to a science with no mess (and a lot of newspapers for the filter change). | ||

You can drill or poke a hole in the filter and drain it to eliminate some of the mess from removing the oil filter. I cut a 1/2 Gallon (two Liter) milk carton up so that I could hold it up against the engine case/filter mounting boss while unscrewing the filter and that catches the majority of the oil from the filter. Thanks, I even posted a couple of photos of my oil catcher here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/185543.html There were some other good ideas in that thread. And, in hind sight, I found the plastic in that particular milk carton was not very thick and was a little too flexible. I later cut up a heavier plastic bottle that worked better. It was a square bottle also and about 1/2 gallon in size. That bottle went away in the box of accessories when I sold my M2. On my Dyna FXD the oil filter is a little more accessible from below, on that I found that if you fold the box the oil filter comes in flat and stuff it up behind the filter, and hold it in place with slight "V" bend, the oil will run down that and hit a oil catch pan.
