So, I drilled a hole in the frame by my knee to mount the switch for my heated grips, and this yellowish liquid begn leaking out the hole... Just jokin' folks! Actually, I'm installing heated grips on my 12R, and wondering where people have mounted their aux. switches. I like a spot on the fairing support, but I'm way scared of drilling such a nice piece and potentially compromising strength and safety. Any help would be appreciated! -Mike | ||

Well, late summer is bad time to ask for heated grip advice, plus there is a very small number of Buellers with heated grips. My FJR has them, but I've never put them on a Buell. That said, what about something like this to avoid drilling any holes at all? On my Yami I ran the grips warmers through a HeatTroller so I can adjust the output, but I'll bet that's not needed on a non-faired (practically) bike. | ||

One more attempt, and this is going on the XBoard, where I know I'll get answers... Is there any reason (safety/ structure, etc.) that I should NOT drill a small hole in the center of the fairing support, below the speedo? Thanks! -Mike | ||

I did get mine installed, and mounted the swithch in the center of the fairing mount below the instrument cluster. Used the metal toggle switch with a black rubber marine cover on it- looks great! Very subtle, nearly unoticeable... Definitely nerve-wracking to drill that beautiful piece of magnesium, though. I must've measured 20 times before I finally did it! I know this is too late to do you any good, but I put the switch on the bottom of the ram-air scoop. Its easy reach; below my knee, and I don't have an ugly switch visible. So, if anyone is putting heaters on for spring. . . think about it. | ||

surewin, can you post pics? I put mine on the center of the upper fairing bracket. doesn't look that bad in my opinion, I'll post pics. But Im curious to see yours. | ||

I see you have the Heli bars. I mounted the thermostat for my e-vest inside the left hole with a zip-tie. That was easy, unobtrusive and convenient. Also I can attach wrap-around grip heaters and "wye" them into the vest for dial-a-heat luxury for when it gets really cold here in SoCal. California dreamin'? This is for you.  |
