My 01 Blast has developed the same problem.

There is a safety switch that will kill the engine if it thinks you are in gear and you let the clutch out with the kickstand down. That is what is happening.

I deal with it by putting up the kickstand before I start the bike.

Another option would be to jumper the switch on the kickstand so the bike thinks the stand is up when its down. The down side of this is if you actually ride off with the stand down, you get a big suprise(the bad kind) on your first left turn.

The neutral switch is behind the drive belt sprocket/pulley on the right side of the engine. Removal of the sprocket is necessary to replace neutral switch.

I plan on digging into it later this fall.
I will try to remember to report back on what I find.

I see you are in Afton. I am in Coon Rapids.

I have a service manual for the '01 Blast that you could use if you or someone you know is mechanically inclined.

No, the light flickers once each time as I put it in neutral, then stays off.

I don't think a burnt out bulb would cause the safety switch to activate.

I am going to pick up a new neutral switch, install it and see if that solves the problem. I will let you know the results.

As far as dealers go, I've only had warranty work done at St Paul HD/Buell and it was satisfactory.

Tim-
Have you done any mods on your blast? I'm looking at an exhaust system and possibly a wider rear wheel, and toying with the rear set idea. I recently found the 'thumper' area and will be browsing there now.

Yes, For mods, click on my profile and reference "P3". You will find lots of good stuff in the thumper forum. I had to order the neutral switch, so i am waiting on that.

i had a guy look over my problem and he's got it down to the actual neutral lightbulb. he ordered a new speedometer and that should be coming soon. your bike looks great. what kind of exhaust did you go with? i'm looking to get one, but i don't want it to be too loud myself.

also, i'm wondering about your seat-is it a custom hd? and what about the lower position - was it (pegs) comfortable before you added the back sets?
