My Uly recent had a BAD oil leak. Oil was running down the clutch cable and I couldn't figure out what happened. Turns out it was a simple fix. the vent hose was pinched, pressurizing the primary/trany and it pushed oil out through the clutch cable until it got to the adjuster. Well it was repaired under warranty, but now I have a VERY crappy looking chin fairing. The upper (gray) portion is stained from the oil. I thought about trying to get it replaced under warranty, but I know it will look like crap eventually anyway. I tried cleaning with polish, Simple Green and even a scrub brush. Before I just paint it black, does anyone have any suggestions? If I paint it black, does anyone have any advice?

Thanx,

Bret

Kuuud try some Honda contact cleaner. Spray some in a rag and and rub briskly....should do it.

Contact cleaner helped somewhat. Any other ideas?

Howdy!

Try putting some "Goop" or other similar waterless hand cleaner on it and let it soak overnight.

If that does not work, try soaking it with "Gunk" de-greaser overnight.

Mine is looking cruddy from tar and road slime, but I am not worried about it. Perhaps someday I will wash the bike...

Oh! Wait!... I rode in the rain recently... Bike washed!

Good Luck!

repaired under warranty? I'd think a good service department would replace it since it's stained.

One more idea...

Spray it with WD-40 and let it soak. Then scrub it with a soft cotton cloth. Repeat as needed.

I have used this technique to remove Permanent Magic Marker from white painted vehicles. It takes time, and several repeats, but it works great on black Magic Marker on white paint!

Let us know how it turned out, and what worked best for you!

Mr. Clean eraser didn't work. Neither did several apps of contact cleaner. Mr. clean seemed to have initially helped (once dry) until chin piece got wet again.

You can order a black center chin fairing from Buell for 31 dollars. American Sport Bike sells a rivet replacement kit to help with reinstallation.
