I have 99 X1 and I was riding the bike for about 3 hours, got off the highway, was stopped at a stop light, started through the intersection and the bike just shut down with no warning. A similar problem happened a couple nights prior when I was rolling. After taking the air scoop off and playing with the spark-plug wires and wiggling a few other things, it came back to life. Not this time. I recently recharged the battery and put it back in and no dice. I have not yet checked the plugs for spark. Also during the trip, I blew a 15amp fuse that controls the speedo and trip display. I do have a service manual for this bike now. Any ideas whould be greatly appreciated.

i had the same problem with my bike after i degreased it, although i think it was coincidence. it died on me on the the inside lane of a highway going up a hill! anyway, whilst on the side of the road i replaced the same fuse you were talking about and it started, although as sonn as i went to ride off it died, i then discovered it would die when weight was put on the back, meaning it was shorting to earth somwhere...
im am currently dismantling the bike now to look for it. so i cooldnt be more help.

I just got done troubleshooting the fuel system and the problem was the pump. Now the new problem is how to get a pump for cheaper than $200. Any suggestions on where to look?

This problem has been fixed. It was the fuel pump that just up and quit. The screen that was connected to it was a metal of some kind and was very brittle when I pulled it out. The new pump has a fabric screen instead. I think that part of the bag may have went inside the pump and seized it up.
