Is there some place I can order a set of headers that already have a ceramic coating like Jet Hot for my XB12Ss to reduce the down time? I've been looking for a used header but have not had any luck finding one so far. Thanks

Howdy!

I believe that Al at American SportBike has an exchange program for Jet Hot coated pipes.

First, you buy a coated pipe from Al. Your initial cost will include a hefty "Core Charge".

When the coated pipe arrives, you install it onto your bike. Of course, at this time you will also remove your original pipe from the bike.

Finally, you send Al your original pipe. It must be in excellent condition. When Al receives your pipe, he will inspect it. If it is acceptable to hem, he will refund the "Core" charge to you.

Your old pipe will then be coated with Jet Hot. In turn, it will be sold to somebody else.

Al is a Sponsor of this Board. You can contact him through the "Sponsors" section.

Have Fun!

The core charge is the MSRP on the Headers. Many people have crash damage on their pipes and just buy them outright, so we need to keep the pump primed by buying new headers to keep the program going. As far as core-worthiness goes, no nicks, dents, gouges or cracks, but discoloration is not an issue. Tube frame headers are generally not in stock any more due to difficulty obtaining clean cores.

Thanks for the info, thats what I was looking for. My bike is less than a month old so the pipe is in excellent shape.

Are the headers the same for all the XB12 bikes?

The finish changed in 06 (brushed stainless in pre-06, media blasted in 06+), but once they're coated that doesn't matter much. You can probably tell the difference even when coated due to the grain direction on the pre-06 headers, but they look fine either way.

I've got one silver and one black coated XB12 header in stock, more are on the way to the coaters now.
