From a press release issued by Pirelli:

Pirelli’s new three-zone compound Diablo Corsa III is not only the hottest, trend-setting, traction-grabbing tire on the market, it also comes with a special promotion. Buy a rear Diablo Corsa III and get a free front for only the cost of shipping.

All any rider needs to do to take part in this promotion is purchase a Diablo Corsa III rear tire from their favorite Parts Unlimited dealer, go to the website: www.diablo.getpirelli.com, sign up, and a front tire will be delivered to your door just for the cost of shipping. Only a limited number of tires are available during this special promotion, so don’t delay.

The Pirelli Diablo III is a three-zone compound tire with two different compounds split into those three distinct zones across the profile, providing high traction for cornering and high-mileage for traveling. It’s the first ever dual compound tire designed specifically for the street and it’s the same tire used in World Superstock competition, again showing how at Pirelli, we race what we sell, we sell what we race.

The Pirelli Diablo III is also manufactured using Pirelli’s unique MIRS (Multi-Integrated Robotic System) technology; no human hands touch the tires during the production process. This results in perfect tires with perfect structural equilibrium. This tire comes balanced so if your rim is too, no weights are required.

Ok Blake, I am looking for tires, is this tire too good to be true? I have just under 3k on my OEM tires, they still have tread left, but when I am pushing them I can feel substantial movement I probably still have 1k left of tread, but I am ready to upgrade.... what are your thoughts, I see that you have put the sales pitch from Pirelli.

Thanks Rod

Just as a point of reference wrt. balancing rims/wheels.

I just pulled the tires off my old Marchesini rims and finally had the chance to check my rims for the heaviest spot. Turns out that it's not at the valve stem but about 25° off on the front rim and 20° off on the rear rim.

It's possible that now that I know the actual heaviest spot on the rim I will need less weight to balance the wheel.

That said, I'd never trust a wheel to be balanced unless I'd had it on the balancer no matter what a tire manufacturer may claim.

Rod,
Just passing on the marketing from Pirelli. I'm with Henrik. Until I see the proof myself that the Pirelli tire is balanced, I'll likely continue checking.

Henrik,
My wheels are about the same, about 25 degrees off of the valvestem for the heavy spot.

I love my Diablo Corsas. If I hadn't just bought tires I would be taking advantage of this deal.
My tires warm up quickly and stick like glue. The rain grooves on the corsas are not as deep,
or wide as on the standard diablos, but they work well as substitutes for intermediate
rain tires for a lot of racers below the pro level.

Well, I bit the bullet, I ordered the rear tire, and applied for the front.

I wasn't concerned about having to balance the tire, I was more concerned about the multiple rubber compounds in the tire and how it would hold up and perform. From everything I have read, any tire I do will be better than the original equipment on the bike.

I am looking forward to getting the tires in and trying them out. Not bad getting two high quality tires with freight for less than $210.00 if it doesn't work out I am not hurt that much unless they dump me, which I can't see happening if I don't do stupid....

I ordered mine last week. My rear tire should be here today or tomorrow.

Last year, Metzeler (same company as Pirelli) had a similar deal for their new RaceTec trackday tire. It took them about 3 days to charge my credit card. It took about 6 weeks to get the free tire.

The Diablos will be going on my S1W next spring (maybe this fall).

Pirelli wants us to use snail mail to send in the registration forms, I have forwarded a couple e-mails trying to see if I can e-mail the paperwork versus depend upon snail mail, I have not got a reply yet, if there is a method to do this I would appreciate it if someone could share.

I had my local dealer check balance on the bare rims before putting the new COrsa IIIs on, and the wheels were NOT balanced (04 XB12S). After finding the heavy spot, and doing our best to manage the heavy spot versus the tire, we still needed added weights to balance out exactly. 1/4 oz up front, 1/2 oz out back, not bad if you ask me!!!

WOuld be curious to grind and lighten the wheels to weight in balanced, but not worth the headache on a street bike!!
