I have an 02 S3T. The voltage regulator went out and I replaced it with a new one. I also have a led volt meter on the bike. The old VR would show between 12-14 volts on the meter. The new VR shows a steady 12 volts. Just wondering if they changes anything on the newer VR's. The battery is always fully charged so no problems. Just wondering. | ||

If the batterry is staying fully charged it sounds like there is probably more voltage there than the 12 volts indicated by the LEDs. I'd check it (engine running around 2,000 RPM) with a VOM with the engine running to get a more accurate comparison value. The LEDs in the meter are controlled by the value of a resistor in the meter, it's possible that has aged or something and the indication is slightly off. Jack | ||

Jack's right. It should be a bit over 14 volts. Even a cheapie DVM will be accurate enough and more accurate than a resistor bridge. Did you replace the VR your self or did a shop do it? I either case, make sure that the VR is well grounded. I use "external" star washers between the VR and the mounting bracket. If the ground is bad, the VR will head south again. Brad | ||

I replaced it myself. The VR has a good ground. |
