Like in that post http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=496578#POST 496578

I'm reluctant to get the service manual.
I got my XB9R used and it lacks the user manual among other things (like the toolkit or seat coil).
Does the user manual go through some maintenance topics such as oil change or should I get the service manual.
If I do, can I use the service manual as an owner manual (I've been riding for 6 years and reading the manuals of 4 bikes already, in the end they all look the same but I must admit these were japanese bikes)?

Thanks for taking the time to answer such a newbie question.

The owners manual tells you the basics of WHEN to do what and the basics of how.
The service manual tells you HOW to do it and when.
Could live with just the service manual alot easier than with just the owners manual.

If you do your own maintenance at all, get the service manual. It will save you more money than it costs you in the long run.

I saved the cost of the service manual by just replacing the clutch lever, foot peg and shift lever myself (labor is $70.00 per hour at my local Buell dealer). And that doesn't include the time it would have taken me to get the bike to the dealership 30 miles away.

All of which I never would have attempted without the instruction from the manual.
