I cant believe there is so much discussion on oils on all web sites.

I have come here to ask all you knowledgable folk if you had a choice between Mobil V twin or HD Synth which would you choose.

My only question on the mobil is does it carry the API standard of 'C' that is specified?

Obviously as I have read in many pasts posts here is that the Mobil oil is popular and if it were a problem we would certainly be hearing about it.

I am thinking mobile myself but just doing one final check.

AND is it used in both tranny and motor?

The buell "guru" at the hd/b dealer I just purch my 01 m2 from says that the only thing that should be run through the buell engine is mobil 1 20w50 vtwin- he says that the engine will love you for it- seems like a pretty well informed guy- been riding nuthin but buells for years he tells me.
Also to tell a story on an aside-an ol import bike guy told me that something they do to an old rice burner before they tape the throttle open, put some gas in it and fire it up, is to empty the old oil out- put in mobil 1 synth oil, drive it a short bit- then get to the event- empty the oil before everyones eyes- and take bets as to how long before it dies- every time they end up puttin more gas in it before it finally calves and the guy who chose he longest time ends up a wealthier guy!! That HAS to say something!!
As to use in the tranny- I don't know yet either- I just read (moments ago) that it helps smooth shifts when used- will be something I report back on in near future myself when budget allows.

M1 twin is a great oil. You could also try Red Line 20-50. Another superb synthetic.

Good luck.

I can't get the Mobil 1 20-W50 V-Twin as easily/cheaply as I can the Mobil 1 15-W50 so I use that in the engine. There are many reports from others here using the same oil and it is good and a safe bet.

The difference between 15 and 20 on the low end is pretty much academic. And the differences between V-Twin grade and regular engine grade is probably mostly in packaging and advertising value. I'll defer to experts on that though.

I change oil every 2,000 miles in the summer. With the high engine temps and small oil supply on the H-D engines, it is cheap insurance against oil breakdown.

I use Mobil 1 75-W90 gear oil in the primary and think it does a little better job than the engine lube. There are many that use the same Mobile 1 oil (15-W50 or 20-W50 in both the engine and primary.
