Ive got a V&H on my m2. Have had it on for 5000 miles with no problem of cracking. I would like to put a D&D on. They dont have on for 97. Does anyone know what would be the closest fit. Would a 99 and newer be close? Mount mods aren't a problem for me.Havent called D&D yet, maybe someone here would have info. Would like more sound V&H too quiet.

The collector size is 1/2" smaller on the earlier Buells (if I remember correctly). Unless you also found a way to neck down the inlet on a system for a newer bike, it wouldn't fit the header.

I couldn't imagine making my V&H any louder, but it looks like you could take the packing out and wrap the perforated silencer with exhaust pipe tape and effectively have a totally un-muffled system.

If you do this, report back on the results - sound quality, vibration, power characteristics.

Bhdm2,
Like DJ indicates, your '97 Cyclone's header collector has a 2" diameter and so will not mate up to any muffler that is made for the larger 2-1/2" header collectors found on later model Buells ('98 S1W and S3/S3T, All '99-'02 Buell twins).

The '98 S1W's and S3/S3T's have a 2-1/2" collector and you can swap your Cyclone's header for one from either of those machines.

Depending on the compatibility of the mounting system, you MAY then be able to mount a D&D slip-on. If D&D advertises a slip-on that is compatible with either the '98 S1W or the '98 S3/S3T, then you will be good to go. I'm not sure about the '99-'02 rear mounting compatibility.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll look for a header then maybe play around with it. I thought about running no packing but the core will vibrate without support of no packing. With no packing I think that low and mid will drop somewhat, maybe gain little on top end.

You could support the tapped up silencer with some supporting packing!
