Hey guys, I've got a '00 M2 with a forcewinder kit and borla exhaust. A couple of months ago while i was still at school, my bike backfired really hard for no apparent reason. It did it so hard that it actually blew the rubber connector on the carb off of the manifold and broke the plastic mount on the throttle enricher. Ever since then i've had more frequent problems of the carb coming loose. I've gone as far as to put a pipe clamp on the rubber connector over the manifold. I'm wondering if anyone have had similar problems and if one of the aftermarket carb support brackets for sportsters would fit the motor and clear the frame.. Hope someone can help! | ||

Whoever installed the Forcewinder discarded the bracket that keeps the carburetor on the bike. I'll find a pic of it to post, I believe it's the same as a Sportsters. I wouldn't ride the bike again until I got the bracket installed. | ||

DJ's got it right -- same bracket as a sportie (which'll make it easier to find) gotta have it -- i'd suggest replceing the seal between the carb and manifold, as well | ||

Thanks guys, the kit came on the bike when i bought it exactly a year ago. The local (60 miles) buell dealer said that this was a common problem and the only fix would be putting back on the stock air box.. I didn't believe him so i'm glad i asked you all. I read in another post that someone had received a kit in which the threads on the forward engine breather were too long.. Mine appears to have the same problem. I'm wondering if this may be the reason the previous owner disregarded the mount after frustration with this bolt? Other than putting a nut on to shorten the thread length, is there any other cheap fixes so that i could actually mount the new bracing bracket? Oh and by the way i found a few brackets in the J & P cycle catalog ranging from 30 to 60 bucks (most expensive includes a new breather kit) | ||

The threaded shank on the stock breather fittings (the ones that stick straight out) are almost 1" long. Those fittings hold that bracket in place and, at the most, a couple of thin gaskets. There is room in the heads for at least 3/4" or so of threaded shank on the breather fittings. I converted my breather outlets to use right angle breather outlets, you can see those here. I did that to get the breather fumes out of the inlet track where they oil up the filter and make a mess. One source for the right angle breather bolts is mentioned there, you may be able to find them at a local H-D dealer or custom bike shop. Jack | ||

I eventually did the XB rocker cover conversion (not shown in my profile pic) and did away with breather bolt issues. |
