You can download the approximately 45MB file from the American Sport Bike Home page here:

http://www.americansportbike.com/

right up at the top, it'll be obvious. I'm sure Blake will host it here some easy way too. It took about 10 minutes or less for me to download it on my DSL connection, but I sure wouldn't want to do it on dial-up.

If there are any corrections or private comments about it, you can ping me directly at my home account or PM me. I only check that mail very early in the AM or late at night though.

There are a thousand things I'd do differently if I had to do the test over again. But overall, I thought it was a success. I learned a bunch of stuff, and it was a cool to hang with Craig, Troy, Warren, Kevin, Terry, and a bunch of other folks doing what it it took to get all the data. It was a dedicated crew that did a great job.

You could just read the XB_Exhaust_Shootout_Test_Report.pdf and get most of it.

The audio clips aren't hyperlinked in the PDF yet, we might be able to get that fixed soon. But you can open each manually. The names are pretty obvious. The audio part of the test wasn't as successful as I would have liked, my untested setup had some issues. But they're better than nothing, and still provide relative info.

The .jpg files that are in the word document are attached as well. They are the same images as in the .pdf document, but the files are clearer, and for color-blind folks like me, that can make a big difference.

I provided some, but not anywhere near, all the dyno run data in Winpep loadable format. Only the optimized fueling runs after tuning was complete for each pipe are given. I'm not going to send out any of the other winpep files. It would be too easy to compare them improperly. I'm only sending out the "best" plot for each pipe, which is not necessarily the highest Peak HP or Torque for each pipe, but the best overall response.

Al

Hi,
I hate to be a bother but would it be possible to pull out a copy of the XB_Exhaust_Shootout_Test_Report.pdf file by itself without having to download the whole .zip file? Thanks.

The .pdf alone is about 37mb, so not the time savings you might think...

Al, you are more patient then I am, that has been proven! Thanks for all the information.

Kudoes to Al for the "Master's Thesis" of XB Exhaust (and exhausting) Testing. Thanks to the test team for their time and in-kind contributions. This was truly an impressive undertaking and whatever exhaust system you decide to run on your XB, you have to appreciate the passion and dedication demonstrated by Buellies of every persuasion

Congratulations to Al and all the others who made this test possible. Everyone will draw their own conclusions, but mine are-

a) A Micron on an XB9 is a stunning combo. The biggest proven HP increase I think I've ever heard of from changing a pipe alone!

b) The standard XB12 pipe is an amazing performer in its own right, to pass all the legislation and be within a few measily HP of aftermarket pipes is brilliant!

Thanks again guys.

"A Micron on an XB9 is a stunning combo"

Got that right! I've got first hand seat of the pants experience with the Micron on my Nallins design big bore / short stroke racebike and all I can say is holy s_it! That exhaust in combination with Brian's handywork is a whole lotta Buell fun : )
The feeling you get coming off the corners is like you were shot out of a rifle!

Al,

Ditto all the above comments, great job by all members of the team.

I cross posted links last night on http://www.ukbeg.com and it has started showing some interest there too.
http://www.bike-pix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=203779#203779(Al, Hope you don't mind the cross post? Might even encourage more of the new UK members to join here too?)

I've pasted up a couple of charts showing XB9 and 12 with stock and Micron, power and torque curves tell a story for me anyway!

I'm glad I bought the Direct Link and pretty confident these results will help sell the Micron in the UK, where it is the same price as a slip on muffler, plus I'll be pushing the Direct Link software from Al as soon as I've set mine up and made sure I'm happy with it!

Steve

Thanks for all the props, folks. Especially to the thanks to the entire team, because it was a huge team effort.

Kevin, Terry, Warren, Craig, and Troy really busted their asses on this. An example:

Late sunday night, or more correctly, early monday morning Kevin and I were discussing results and comparing the XB9 Micron and Drummer runs and maps. It was then that we discovered that there was a small discrepancy in the rear cylinder timing table on the micron vs the others (based on the map genesis). It wasn't a huge difference, but enough that it could possibly skew the results. I was not happy, as it was my error that caused the discrepancy. After some discussion, it was decided that the Micron needed to be re-run on the XB9 with an identical spark map as had been used on all the others. We had already yanked the bung headers off of it, but the bunged headers were remounted, and the runs were taken. Everyone was totally beat after two days of doing this, and we thought we were done with the runs. But we knew it was the right thing to do to keep the playing field level, and everyone just jumped right on it. That kept us until after 2AM. These folks were dedicated to the cause, and it was a pleasure working with all of them.

Al

The Rev B file is posted, same link. Some minor updates throughout, highlights:

Corrected D&D XB12 Fueling plot, the wrong plots were posted as the Buell stock and Race ECM curves.

Added the picture of the airbox and Mike Norris's catch can (he donated two for the test mules)

Added page numbers

Fixed spelling/grammar errors throughout.

The files are on the way to the sponsors on CD.
