the case halves are mated with an RTV silicone sealant without a gasket.

That spot is a common place for oil leaking elsewhere to end up. Is there any oil at all behind your rear cylinder?

clean all the oil off and let it dry. Hit the spot with some powdered foot spray and warm up the motor, this will help you better see if it is infact the cases which are leaking.

I am more inclined to think that either your stator grommet or breather line has aged and cracked, or you have a primary or base gasket leak.

How much oil are you getting there? I hope it is not really the cases, that a real PITA job.
