Engine Light came on during a short ride. the bike seemed to run fine but I did notice the fan never came on. I have contacted my dealer but has anyone else had this problem? its an 06, 130 miles. I did some google-ing and search here but couldnt find anything. Any info greatly appreciated.

Please anyone...... Could it be a fouled spark plug? it did not seem to be running rough.

Is it still on?

If yes, have you tried the blink code test outlined in the manual?

Likely one of your sensors is on the fritz. We routinely disconnect the O2 sensor during tuning, and sometimes the light never comes on, other times it comes on right away. I'm not sure if the ECM does this with the other sensors.

Is the bike running well? If yes, don't sweat it. If the problem becomes more serious, it will come back on again.

Thanks.

I have not been on the bike since. (too much going on) when I was on the bike the light would come on and go off, (not fast like it was beeping out an error code) no rhyme or reason that I could tell. I have not done the blink code test (I didnt know of it til you mentioned it) I will look it up in the manual.
Does this beep out the engine error code? or is it some type of diagnostic system check.

Thanks for the info.

Stain:

the blink codes test consists of closing 2 pins on the ecm data connector, and watching the fault light, I have one of the older tube frame buells so I wont get too specific

close the line i think its pins 1 & 4 [ SEE FSM ]

trouble ligt blinks at 2 rates slow and fast, IIRC fast can be thought of as [NEXT]

so a blink pattern of
fast
1 slow
pause
3 slow
pause
fast
pause
repeat

is trouble code 13
you can have multiple tc's
ie
code 11
pause
code 13
pause
code ......
I wont list them becase they might be different x1 to xb but thats the gist

see your manual for the details
take your time its not rocket science

Thanks for the great info.

I took the bike back to the dealer for warranty work. Still dont know what code it was throwing. The service guy mentioned something about getting the error code out by pressing the signal buttons? (Maybe woth Harley's?) I got the error codes out on a Nissan SPEC-V by doing a brake/gas pedal Cheat code. Does the new XBs have something similar?

If anyone is interested here is my story.

I had an 02 883R with about 2000 miles on it, that I had bought brand new. It was my first street bike, it had Screaming eagle 2 into 1 exhaust, jet kit, air filter, and screaming eagle ignition coil. It was a great beginner bike enough power to be fun (in my opinion) after 2 or 3 years I noticed that it started to lose its fun so I started looking into other bikes like Ducati and Buell. I am very happy with my 06 xb9sx and I am glad I made the choice I did, my brother in law just got the Ducati Monster 620 and I was not impressed. (although it looks nice). Anyway I took my 883R to Bergen County HD to see what I could get on a trade. I went in to see and came out with a new bike. I think I got ripped a little but not too bad. They gave me 4000 for it. I had about 3000 left to pay on it so I used that for the down payment. They were getting the bike ready to go when I noticed that there were spots on the airbox cover that werent coming off with the cleaner, and it was also cracked. They said they would order me a new one and I was on my way. I rode it for the next couple of days and the spots got worse. Turns out it was leaking brake fluid from the banjo bolt on the handlebars. They came with a truck the next day, picked it up and they fixed the leak. 2 weeks later I finally got the new airbox cover and so far nothing wrong besides the leak and cracked airbox. took it for a short ride and the engine light comes on. It kept coming on and off what seemed like for no reason. Took it back on a Tuesday and got it back on Monday. The Fan connector became loose. It has 140 miles on it so far. I have to say Bergen County HD has been very good if not particulary fast with fixing the fan issue, but I could see they were swamped. So far these problems are not severe I just hope I dont get anymore.
