Please don't tell me this is a major problem!!!! I fired up the bike this weekend after a long winter in hibernation. Washed and rode for about 150 miles. Bike was VERY dirty so it was time for another bath. It was then that I saw a small amount of oil on the from cylinder head. After a through cleaning, I let the engine run until I found the leak. It appears to be coming from the space between the front motor mount (left side) and the cylinder head. The checked the motor mount bolt and it was tight. I didn't see any cracks in the motor mount. It doesn't seem to be a big leak. Just a few drops here and there. I'm like to fix the problem before it becomes a major repair (if it isn't one already). Any input from the masses? I have the same symptoms on my bike. I think the most likely possibility is the Rocker Box. Can somebody tell me if changing the gasket will solve this problem? | ||

Yes, If you haven't had them replaced yet, yours are most likely the old paper gaskets. The new ones are steel and have made leaky rocker boxes a rare occurance. | ||

It's your lower rocker gasket. I've done my M2 3 times before the steel gaskets came out. My 95 S2 was also changed out. My son's 96 S2 was just changed last week for the same reason. Easy fix, the whole rocker box gasket kit is less the $45. Good luck! Oh yeah, make sure you use a torque wrench. Don't guess! Brad | ||

While you are tearing apart the rocker boxes, you may want to think about replacing the two piece stock rocker boxes with the one piece XB rockers... It elimainates the need for a catch can or routing the breathers back into the airbox. I'm going to do this to my Cyclone tomorrow, shoot me a PM if you need part numbers or any help if you decide to go that route... Prior | ||

Good point Alex, At minimum, you need to do the umbrella valve mods. It's very simple, only takes a few seconds and really helps the spooge issue. Not as much as the XB covers but it does help. FYI. I put the XB covers on my bike about 6 months ago. If you don't want spooge dripping out on the ground, you will still need a catch can. However, routing the lines to a catch can you will have a lot more choices in where to put it, since gravity is not as much of a factor. I ended up running them too a catch bottle mounted just to the right of the battery (see my profile photo). (Ugly, but effective.) Every motor is a little different, but I still get maybe a tablespoonful or so on each 100 mile ride in the can, especially if I'm really getting on it. A lot of the spooge looks more like condensed oily water than straight oil. It is possible that it is just condensation, but if it wasn't going in the catch can it would be blowing all over my bike and I personally hate that. | ||

I have already added the JAZ catchcan, and have it in the same position as Delta. I don't mind the catchcan. I don't have a lot of spooge either, and mine looks mostly like water with a bit of oil when I drain it. I don't have the funds to add new covers. I will be happy doing the gaskets. I will also do the umbrella valve mod. Looks easy enough, and I don't have much spooge the way it is. My luck, I will have more after doing the mod. |
