Came out of a coffee shop this morning, turned the key on and the check engine light didn't go out.

Started engine light stays on. I rode the bike slowly home seemed to run ok.

Hooked up VDSTS and no codes showing. The software is connecting ok as all engine reading show up. However the timing advance is at 0.0 doesn't seem right to me.

Called the company that made the software and they are checking why there is no trouble codes showing.

Bike is a 2006 Uly. 1010 miles.

Any ideas please, dealer is 70 miles away.

Thanks John

This could be fun and at least educational.

Per service manual, retrieved trouble code by shorting pins 1 and 2. Code 21.

Per service manual "active muffler control" again according to SM could be a fault in the horn or brake circuit.

Outside to check and sure the brake lights doesnt work and the horn does not blow.

Will try to find the problem this am, starting with fuses of course and if blown what made it blow.

More to follow.

Thanks to a service manual, the problem is fixed. I just don't know if it is truly repaired.

The fuse for the horn/brake lights/ and exhaust valve was blown. Replaced fuse and all is well for the time being. I hope it was just a fluke as I couldn't get it to blow again using both the horn and the brake light at the same time. Time will tell I suppose.

By the way the company that is making the software will have an update in the next couple of days showing a code 21 (it's not in the software now) and it's meaning.

JOhn88030,
I had to replace my exhaust actuator. The engine light would come on but no problem with fuses on that circuit. I have blown the ignition fuse twice w/o finding the source of the problem. Others think the problem is behind the face plate or neck assembly area. I removed, checked and re-taped the wiring harness. I have not blown a fuse in several days. As for the exhaust issue, I pulled s 21 code off the ECM with the jumper wire method and it would not cycle during the self test mode. No engine light problems anymore. Code has been cleared.

Djbillysh2, if you are getting code 21 on a XB9, it means either you have the wrong ECM on your bike or someone altered your stock ECM using a 3rd party program.
