Deciding on an exhaust solution for my S2.

Anyone know with certainty if a S1 Buell race header and muffler will bolt up to an S2?

Aaron W mentioned a while back that "non-S2 '96-'98 headers will go on an S2 with a different air cleaner" Was that a race pipe too Aaron? (watcha running on your S2?)

I have a S1 race kit available, Vance & Hines, D & D, and a Supertrapp slip on for an S2 stock header.

I run the stock header with a V&H slip-on.

I'll send you the instruction sheet for the race header, it describes how to put it on an S2.

I'm running a Buell Race header (fit '97 - '98 bikes) on my S2.

I have a Race can, new in box, but because of the rear mounting ears snapping (for some people, granted), I'm now trying out one of the old model Supertrapp IDS slip-on mufflers (no elbow).

So far, the newly (2002) designed rear muffler hanger straps snapped in less than 500 miles. I've got a newer, different design straps to try out when the snow melts. I'm hoping that the new straps along with Aaron's front header support idea will resolve the issue.

Keep in mind, that the Buell front support strap will be too short to reach the race header. I had one made from stainless. Had it made too long so I can cut it to length, when I have everything together to measure.

The kit instructions Aaron sent me state that the S2 needs a Header Support part number 65784-96YA which I'm told is now S1001.01A1 and sells for ... ... drum roll ... ...$93.99!

Can either of ya explain what this part is? Is that the official Buell version of the AWEB? (Aaron Wilson Exhaust Brace)

Don't even ask what the price of a S2 side stand lists for now...sheeeesh.

DAve,
There is a S2 sidestand on Ebay now.

Buell race pipe. The one thing that bothered me about mine was the fact that I could never get it to seal completely at the exhaust port of the head. If I could have, I would have probably never have bought what, for me has been the best street exhaust system I have used on a Buell. The Borla SYSTEM. Not just a muffler, but the complete system. Part number 25065 for 98 and older bikes. Since then, Borla has stopped selling M/C exhaust systems. I now have 40,000 miles on the Borla and no problems. The Buell race muffler lasted almost 15,000 miles before the rear mount broke. I re-enforced it and put another 5000 miles on it before I sold it and installed the Borla. The Borla has longer primary pipes and seemed to make more midrange power. I never compared the two with dyno runs: just seat of the pants comparisons. The last dyno run on my bike was 109.8 hp. and 103 tq. with the Borla.

DAve, on another matter; I took the front jug off today. Part of the rear piston had made its way out of the rear cylinder and into the front cylinder. It was laying on top of the piston when I took the head off. Kevin is sending both heads to Nallin so he can do a little work on the chambers for his pistons to work better. I hope to have it back together in a couple of weeks.

V2: are you aware of the recent Buell exhaust gasket? It is now tapered (poor description) rather than a flat donut. The old ones cannot be madee to seal without torquing the living sh!t out of the nuts and breaking the studs. The new one seals every time.

Holy Shiet John! Those parts don't supposed to move around like that! ;) haha

I saw it John thanks. A sidestand for the S1, S3 was running around $40 and they come powder coated. So I presumed the same was true for the S2 seeing mines kinda beat up and gray rather than white...wrong. (Used side stands for S1, S3, etc have sold on ebay for $20 or more)

Exhaust header gasket...not the mesh Screamin Eagle crap ones they always try to sell me

On the new gasket I have been told to be aware as the new gasket can squish out and intrude the exhaust outlet thus causing a restriction and reduced performance. If you can get the flat style to seal that is the better one to use. Just take note if you pull off the exhaust and see if yours is ok in this regard.
