Anyone know the bolt size and type of thread the side stand bolt is on an 05xb? Mines is sord of bent and I think its better to replace her now before she breaks on me. | ||

I broke mine and they are 5/16 and think they were two inches long, have a problem kindof made a mess out of one of the holes to get the snaped off bolt out, and now having proublems with bolts bending, does anyone know what to use to fill the hole so I can drill and tap it so it will be like new, having a proublem and using grade 8 bolts, do they come any harder, going to get stock bolts and see if that will hold but think I still need to fill the gap so the bolts will not bend. thanks Mike | ||

I was just searching and found this post about side stand mounting bolts broken. I have a 2006 XB12X Ulysses and mine both broke off today, as I was getting on the bike! Of course in fell over and broke the left side mirror, too. I called the dealer and they said they only had one in stock and that it is listed as 5/16, 18 thread and 1 1/4 inches long grade eight. They asked for me to stop at a hardware store and pick a couple up and take it to them so they could replace them. The ones that broke did not appear to be grade eight as they had no grade markings like grade three ones. The bike is less than two years old and still under warranty! Well, their head mechanic fought with getting out the broke off bolts all afternoon. He finally drilled them out and put in heli-coils that would not hold the strain. finally at almost 5 PM they called Buell technical service who told them not to weld it and wanted pictures, which the dealer sent electronically. As the dealer was closing, I had to call my wife to come get me as the dealer is waiting to here from teck services as to what to do now! And I was packed ready to leave tomorrow morning on a 7 thousand mile ride! Great Reliability, my Harley never did this to me. |
