I finally had the xb dyno tuned by Scott at Tampa HD with the direct link. I basically asked him to make it safe, and smooth it out where possible. Mission accomplished! It's super smooth now, and the decel pop is GONE. Engine decels like a well tuned V8 now. The fact that it picked up a few ponies is a bonus. The pic is small Number are:
92.90 rwhp
82.28 rwtq
This is the chart:

spec ops direct link

And to think all I was looking for was some more sound. I'm running the buell race filter, and hole-sawed out the airbox(not much left) He got rid of most of the dip at 3500, and I may take it back to try for more, but it's really un-noticable at this point. The bike runs great!

Also, here is a chart of my dyno vs. a 04 xb12 with drilled airbox, race filter, Jardine, and tuned with direct link.

spec ops vs jardine

The Jardine's peak numbers were:
93.14 rwhp
79.23 rwtq

Spec. Ops = blue
Jardine = red

Would be grateful if folks would post dyno results to the Dyno testing topic in the KV. That will make them easy to find in one place for all interested parties.

Thanks,

Blake

Blake,

I'd be glad to post a copy to the overwhelmingly popular dyno section of the KV. Due to the enormous amount of threads though, there may not be enough room.

I'm sure you know there is a picture section too...but I guess 398 posts of xb only pictures is somehow different...

Is cross-posting a no-no (here and other places on badweb)? I am happy the info was posted here, as I only look in the other sections of badweb when I am ice cream headache bored and it seems obvious why it should be there (in the dyno section), but is it bad to do 2 postings to ensure both proper placement and high traffic?

TommyK thanks for the post, looks good. I am curious how the bike runs as far as cold starts , idle and light throttle?

Thanks Tommy, the dyno chart looks great. Did you ever run the Special Ops muffler with the stock filter and stock fuel map. If so, did you have decel popping with that set up. I have a spec. op muffler ordered for my Uly and plan to run stock filter for now. Just wanted to know what to expect (I hate decel popping). thanks,

Tim

Tommy,

How much did all of this cost you? Could you list out what you paid for each (muffler, direct link, service charge, etc.) Thanks!

Jed,
cold starts just fine...same as stock. Idles perfect, and light throttle cruise is improved. I want to say that overall throttle response is much better.

Fast,
The first chart I posted shows the dyno pull with the muffler, filter, drilled airbox, and stock map. I had it dyno'd before and it only ran lean(almost 16:1) for a small spot up top.(you can see that chart on the Spec. Ops website too) I taped over a couple holes until I could get it tuned. It ran fine, and the decel popping I'm referring too really wasn't all that bad..not like backfiring or anything. It's just SUPER smooth on the decel now, and doesn't have any kind of pop or miss. I would assume that with a stock box, and stock filter you'll be just fine until it's mapped...for the most part, my a/f until mapping was around 14.5:1

Christian,
I bought the muffler used for $200. Odie can mod your muffler for $250 I think. The filter are around $60. The drilling of the airbox was free. Direct Link key was $250. Dyno Tuning was $250 It'll be cheaper to swap your ecm for a pre-programmed one when they come available. I heard a couple people are working on it...I just didn't want to wait any longer!

ME TOO!
Tommy, Was that Scott Coral who did your map at Tampa Harley? I was told he is the "man to see" there for Buell expertise?

One more thing.
What does Tampa charge for a custom Map?
Thanks!

TK-

Could you or someone else explain the Direct Link thing to me. I've heard the term several times but have not read a definition. Also, I have the full factory race kit and experience the popping on deceleration. Would you recommend that I have the bike tuned if this is happening or should I experience a minimal amount of popping?
Thanks,
Jak

"Direct Link" Is mostly software that enables you to re-program your ECM.
It's best not purchased, unless you are an expert mechanic and have access to a Dyno. The layman, or weekend garage mechanic can literally blow up their motor, fooling around.
The way to go is; find a dealer, or hot rod bike shop that has a Dyno and Direct Link and have a custom map made. It's a little expensive, but the bike will run better than it ever has!

Bikin,
The custom map, done while on the dynojet, was $250...and yes, I think his last name is Coral(sp) He's known in the Vrod ring as well, amongst others I'm sure. He's a very good/thorough tuner imho. He's also doing a buildup on a 12r that originally came in for some warranty work. Cams and high comp pistons I think...I'll post results on that as well because I'm sure it's gonna make some good power.

Jak,
He's right. Direct Link is the ecm programming software. Tampa HD has their own program running, so I only had to buy the USB key that locks it to your spec. ecm. I've never experience the race kit, but I'd venture to say that ALL combos will run significantly better if dyno tuned to the bike...it def. can't hurt given the tuner knows what they're doing.

Is cross-posting a no-no (here and other places on badweb)?
I have no problem with cross-posting.
The only problem I see would be posting the pictures over and over. The way around that would be to post the pictures once, and either post a link to said picture, or use the
\ imagelink{www.yourpicturesaddresshere.com}
(just take out the space between the \ and the imagelink{) code in the cross-posted post.
Did that make any sense at all?

Thank you very much Tommy! I'll have to pay him a visit. I know how important a good map by a good tuner on a Dyno is, because Eraldo Ferracci did a map on my Italian bike's PC III and I literally couldn't believe the HP and torque! It was like going from a street bike to a GP bike.
I'll definitely be seeing Scott in Tampa. Thanks again.
