I've got an '04 Buell XB12S, with only 24 miles on it (New, leftover!) my buddy has an '04 XB12R. I'm a bit perplexed at why mine vibrates like it's trying to shake itself apart at lower RPM's while the R seems infinitely smoother?
I'm worried something might be wrong.
Are these bikes running different cams, or something?
Anyone got any idea? Al???
Both idle at just over 1000 RPM. Mine thumps like you wouldn't believe below 3K RPM, but is smooth as silk above 3K?
There's none of the telltale rattling, or gnashing sound that usually accompanies a loose primary.
The bike is brand new! I just clicked over 200 miles today. I should take it to the dealer, but that's 150 miles away!
I might try my local dealer, but these Harley shops are such pricks! One refused to zero a TPS unless I bought the Race ECM from them & had them install it!
And, no, the Race ECM is NOT installed. The only Mods are an open box & K & N filter. Besides, it was like this since new! |

After 03, all XB frames and mounts should be the same. There shouldn't be more shaking in yours then your buddies. Perhaps there is an engine mount problem. If the TPS is messed up, they should reset it without giving you and slack.
Did this start at about the time you installed the K&N? |

No Shea, It's been this way since I rolled it out of the showroom!
I thought it vibrated a bit, but it was my first experience with Buell, all my other bikes were Jap inline 4's. It wasn't until I rode my buddy's that I noticed a tremendous difference. I have to check that front motor mount. That sounds logical, but I just can't believe it's bad right from the start!?! |

I would ask what were the temperatures you were riding in. You will notice more vibration with cold temps than when it is nice out. Rubber in the mounts gets harder as temperatures get lower causing increased vibs. Took me a while to figure this one out. Something to look at anyway. |

I am also new to the v-twins and I have a new old stock 03 XB9S. I just broke 1000 miles, all stock. I followed the book on breakin. now that i'm free to run full RPM's at will, I have a vibe starting at 4500 and increces all the way to redline. I don't know if this is normall or not? |

By 'Vibe' are you meaning a slight buzzing feel in the grips or is it more of an oscillation at the head/front wheel? |

It's a buzzing in the grips and the pegs. Smooth as glass until 4500rpm. |

Ok, the nature of the V-Twin is such that there will be some vibration caused by those two large pistons (and attached parts) moving back and forth. It's going to be quite different from the sensation of an IL4. Not sure if that's what your feeling, but it may be.
Usually with good boots and gloves you won't notice so much of a 'buzzing' sensation. Next time you're around your dealer, have someone check it out - may be nothing but that 'standard' shake, or it could possibly be something that needs tightening around the mounts etc. Since your bike is 'new' you should still be plenty covered for anything that comes up and the bike did spend time sitting soo.. it can't hurt to check it out. If it's all tight and good to go, then I'd say you're just taking note of the different feel of the twin.
I don't notice such a thing really (but then I've been riding my XB since '03 and we're quite comfortable with each other now) but I do know she shakes a bit and there will always be some of that with a 45* V. |

I rode my friends 03 XB9S a couple of times, and it never did what mine does, no matter what RPM. I have inspected the front Eng. mount rubber, and it seems to be fraying at the top. I'm taking it to the shop tomorow.
The service manager won't even look at the vibe problem until I pay BIG $$$$ to have the 1000 mile service done. I don't think that's right. I was going to do the service my self, but they said it would void my warranty. |

They can't void your warranty if you have receipts for the supplies and better yet,
pics of the proceedure for major stuff like the forks. |

Hear's an update.
I took my bike in to the shop on Sun. They called me today, and said the front motor mount is bad. I also took in the service bullitens for the wheel bearings, so they have to order the new ones. The powder coat on the rear sprocket is chipping, so they have to order that allong with the bearings, and the front mount. I probably won't see my bike for about two weeks.
The warranty deal is sort of messed up. The only way I can completely garrente the warranty if I do the service, is if I take a video of the whole process, allong with having recipts. The dealers argument is that "How do we know you did it correctly" |
