Does anyone know what type of metal this piece is made of?

Mine is cracked and I have taken it to a shop to have it welded and the welder did not want to take a stick to it until he knew what it was made of.

Also with respect to powder coating these what do the shops usually coat the head pipes with(type of material)??

Newfie--it's some kind of stainless. I had some welding done on a race pipe (I assume it's the same kind of stainless) and the guy used a stainless rod. It worked out fine, I think I posted pix in the exhaust section.
