I'm putting together a race project, I understand that the updated shocks on the tuber's are shorter, and that during the recall the front shock mounts were replaced as well. What were the significant changes in the design of the front mount, and will a newer Showa rear shock bolt up to the older rear shock mount and give me the expectation of a higher rear ride height?

Also was there any change in the geometry of the swingarm shock mounting arm/location from steel to aluminum?

On the other hand, who still supplies the old BMC race front shock mount that lifted the rear originaly, is it still available, is there an after market option available not from Buell?

Call Henry Duga at Buell. If you're creative there are other ways as well. I moved the shock mount location on the swingarm.

Oh yeah...using the old mount with a new shock will give you a dirtbike-like rear ride height.

But now the question is... is running a tuber with the new showa and old front mount safe?

They were recalled on all bikes but the S1...and the S1 just so happens to be a bike that rarely gets ridden any distance with a passenger. I've jumped my bike several feet into the air at high speeds many times and landed some harsh stoppies...it's still holding.

i have been thinking of doing the same,what about using a shock from a m2 low,this is longer than the other 2001-2002 shooks.anyone know the length of the m2 low shock ?.i would like to raise the back end of my 99 m2,having a uk bike with uk gearing puts the rear wheel further to the rear,giving a longer wheelbase than us bikes,a shorter shock wouldnt make the wheelbase to short,at over 6ft it wouldnt make the seat to high for me.the 2001 m2 low shock absorber part number is k0410.01a5a.though any shock would be better than mine with its ugly shock reinforcement kit on it

I tried using an older long shock mount with a new shock on my M2. It won't work as the shock mount on the swingarm comes into contact with the swingarm mounting bracket. It looked like it would go in but about 1/4" too far forward which is probably too close even if it would have mounted up. I was going to send a drawing to someone from this board but have yet to get it done in CAD. Gist of it is an inch forward is too much and will probably screw with ride characteristics while I think about a 1/2" forward on the mounting would be perfect but finding that is proving to be difficult...

Something quick and easy I did was to buy a steel spacer the same width as the swingarm mount (I believe it was around 1" diameter and a 5/8" thick?), and drilled a like sized hole in the mount, enlarging the existing hole, to move the mount out (towards the front wheel) about 1/4". I then used a large washer to secure things, and also fabricated a brace to ensure the mount couldn't be pulled any further forward. At first I had a CF brace but broke it later doing some maintenance. It's now a chrome-moly piece.
