Not knowing a whole lot about the differences between the exhaust headers on the different model Buell's, can you guys help me out and tell me if I can fit an X1 header onto my '96 S1?

I know that I would have to plug the hole for the O2 sensor, but what other challenges am I looking at? Is the diamater the same, will my V&H hook up to it, will it contact the frame or clutch cable??? So many questions!

My header got destroyed in a wreck, and I'm looking for an inexpensive replacement. I see pipes on EBay and in classifieds all the time, but they're always for M2's, S2/3's, or X1's. I can't seem to find a factory one for my S1, and I'm just hoping one of these would fit.

As always, thanks in advance for your help.

No. The 99 bikes moved the right lower frame tube (that runs under the aircleaner) so that the exhaust would tuck underneath it.
Look for a S1WL header or just spring for the Race header. I believe any 96-98 pipe will bolt right on. the 98 S3/S1 header (and the race header) has a 2.5" outlet.

Sorry, yer cant fit the later pipes to the earlier framed Buells. Take a look at the rear header routing.ANY pre 99 headers will fit your S1 .Good luck Miguel

I'm getting a bit tired of polishing the headers on my S1. The X1 White lightning has a blue ceramic coating on the headers, that I think would look good om my bike. Does anyone know more specific what kind of coating this is? Or perhaps has some other ideas?

Valez,
It's a ceramic coating and Jet Hot does a perfect match for the X1W color and they do a much better job than whoever originally did the blue for Buell. Highly recommended.

on a related note: are all pre '99 stock buell headers ceramic coated, or just the (blue) s1 headers?

You Yanks are so lucky with all the wonderful shops available for supplies of all kinds of goodies.
Europe sucks for these matters.
Follow link for alternative ceramic coatings for headers:

Only the X-1 WL has that abominable blue coating, all the others are stainless--except M-2's got the cheap black paint.

M2's went stainless for 2000 and later models.
